Areas of support, and how we work with them.

People come to therapy for many reasons. These are the areas I work with most often, every one of them is workable.

Areas of support

Where would you like to start?

Explore some of the concerns James commonly works with, or get in touch if what you’re dealing with doesn’t fit neatly into a category.

Self-criticism, comparison, imposter feelings and a kinder inner voice.

  • Emotional Regulation

Big feelings, quick reactions, and learning to respond rather than react.

  • Personal Growth

Clarity, direction, values-based goals and habits that actually move you.

Therapeutic approaches

The approach depends on the person, not just the problem.

James draws on established psychological therapies and adapts the approach according to what you’re dealing with, what matters to you, and what proves useful over time.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Understanding the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and developing practical strategies for change.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Building psychological flexibility: noticing difficult thoughts and feelings without being ruled by them, and taking action aligned with your values.

Schema Therapy

Exploring long-standing patterns in how you relate to yourself and others, often rooted in earlier experiences.

Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)

Focusing on relationships and life transitions as they connect to mood and wellbeing.

How sessions work

A clear, practical way to work together.

Sessions are structured enough to keep things moving, while remaining flexible enough to respond to what you need.

50-minute sessions

Standard sessions are 50 minutes. The first appointment may run a little longer so there is time to understand what has been happening and what you would like help with.

In-person or telehealth

Meet with James in Sans Souci, or by secure telehealth Australia-wide, whichever works better for you.

Review as you go

James checks in with you about what is helping, what needs more attention, and whether the focus should change as therapy progresses.

Ready when you are

Start with a conversation.

You don’t need to know exactly what you need before getting in touch.
